The Auckland Lady Anglers is a non profit club for Ladies who enjoy recreational fishing, but don't have access to a boat, or just enjoy the company of like minded ladies.
The club was founded in 1963 and some of our founder members still fish today. We currently have 35 financial members in our club. We fish on a monthly basis, all year round, on the Kaipara aboard the "SERENE' skippered by Rod Bridge. We have two trips a month, one on a Tuesday and one on a Sunday for the working girls.
We all meet at Parakai wharf, where we board the 'SERENE' sometimes as early as 4 am, which is no deterrent, and head off up the river out to the harbour, for a full days fishing, often singing as we go.
Social weekend fishing trips are also arranged at different times throughout the year. In the past we have fished Mayor Island, Great Barrier, Kawau, Tutukaka and the Poor Knights to name a few. Our ladies have landed many a fine catch and have held New Zealand fishing records.
As a club we are affiliated to the New Zealand Angling and Casting Association and some years have competed in the NZACA National Fishing Competition. Each year the competition is held in a different area. We also support the New Zealand Recreational Fishing Council.
The Auckland Lady Anglers meet on the last Wednesday of each month, at the Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre, Meeting room, (behind Woolworths) at 7.30 pm. After the meeting we enjoy a cup of tea and supper and enjoy catching up on each others fishing tales and gossip.
There is a great fellowship among our ladies. Knowing how to fish is not essential, just an ambition to fish and having fun is. If you would like some more information about joining us on a fishing trip and maybe becoming a member you can contact either our president or secretary on the supplied contact details. ....
