Casting

Each year the Association conducts a Postal Casting Competition and a Casting Competition at the Annual National Championships comprising a distance event using a weight  plus accuracy events using imitation bait.

Each event has eight classes : Male, Female, Veteran Female, Veteran Male (Vet’s over 55 years), Golden Oldie Female, Golden Oldie Male (Golden Oldie over 65 years), Juniors (12 to 17 years) and Midgets (under 12 years). Ages as at 1st.January of current NZACA Financial Year.

In the Postal Casting Competition there is a handicap system which just decides the most improved Casters, and an over-all Champion decided on the total points alone in each class. At the Nationals place-getters are based on aggregate points.

Clubs are encouraged to hold a own Club, or maybe a combined Club, Casting Days based on the rules for this competition and the results from these Casting Days are submitted for inclusion in the Postal Casting Competition.

These Club Days can be ‘fun days’ and a good chance for Club get-together maybe in the fishing off-season.  A good way of encouraging the young and improving of surfcasting skills.

Entry/result Forms are sent out to Clubs each year and results need to be sent in to the NZACA Office by the 1st.November each year. There is a small charge per competitor to cover processing costs.

Place-getters in the Postal Casting Competition are recognised by the issue of Certificates and there are a number of Trophies which are awarded each year at the National Prize Giving function. Trophies are awarded for place-getters at the Nationals.

NZ Casting Records are determined by results from any sanctioned NZACA Competition which includes Postal Casting and Casting at the National Championships.
